The design splits this into two views:

  • Global Leaderboard → where users see how they rank among a wider community

  • Friends Leaderboard → a more personal, low-pressure space to compare with people they know

At the top, a dedicated summary card gives users a quick snapshot of their current standing. Without needing to scan the full list, users can instantly see:

  • their rank

  • how they compare to others (e.g., ahead of X% of learners)

  • their current tier

  • streak and points

And that raised an important concern. But this product isn’t meant to be heavily competitive — it’s primarily about learning.

So instead of introducing demotion (which can feel discouraging), the system focuses only on upward movement.
